Grand Teton Fall Photography Workshop 2027: Teton Gold & Wildlife with Matt Suess and Jim Nix
By Matt Suess · October 17, 2026
I'm excited to announce a brand-new fall workshop for 2027: Teton Gold & Wildlife, a small-group fall photography workshop in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, which I'll be co-leading with my good friend and fellow pro photographer Jim Nix. We'll spend five days, September 23–27, 2027, photographing golden aspens, the Teton Range in fall color and the wildlife that makes autumn here so special.
This one is limited to just 9 photographers, and registration is open now. You can see all the details and reserve your spot on the Teton Gold & Wildlife workshop page.

Why Grand Teton in the fall?
After leading 35+ workshops in Grand Teton National Park across every season since 2015, fall is still the one I look forward to most. In late September the aspens and cottonwoods turn gold, the valley grasses fade to soft yellows and dusty pinks, and the mornings are crisp, with mist rising off the water and frost along every edge.
It's also the fall breeding season. Elk and moose move down from the hills, bulls bugle and stake out their ground in the sagebrush, and afternoon storms roll through and throw incredible light across the valley. For a photographer, everything feels sharper, more colorful and more alive than any other time of year.
Equal parts wildlife and landscape photography
Most fall workshops lean heavily toward one or the other. This one gives you equal time on both, so you'll leave with a complete fall portfolio and the skills to photograph sweeping autumn landscapes and wildlife in their fall habitat. You might photograph a bull moose in the morning mist, then shift to the Tetons in alpenglow with fall foliage in the foreground, all in the same day.
I've been photographing the Tetons since 2012 and live just 4.5 hours away, so I know where the wildlife tends to be at dawn, which spots give you animals with mountains behind them, and how to time each shoot for the best light and activity.
Two instructors, only 9 photographers
This isn't a bus tour with 30 people jockeying for position. With just 9 participants and two professional photographers in the field, Jim and I can work with you one-on-one every day, whether that's nailing exposure at sunrise, composing environmental wildlife portraits or finding your own creative voice.
Jim Nix is a travel and landscape photographer based in Austin, Texas, a Skylum Ambassador, and the creator of a YouTube channel with over 50,000 subscribers and hundreds of editing tutorials. His work has been published in Popular Photography, and he's co-led photo tours to Iceland and Madeira. Having two of us means you get two different eyes in the field and two editing perspectives back at the hotel.
Sunrise to sunset in the field
Over five days we'll photograph every sunrise and sunset, with midday breaks to rest and download, and we'll stay flexible to follow the weather, the light and the wildlife. Jim and I will also hold editing sessions covering Lightroom, DxO, the Nik Collection and Luminar, so you can see both of our workflows and choose what fits your style.
Who this workshop is for
Teton Gold & Wildlife is open to every skill level, from beginners to pros, and to photographers using any camera brand. Most locations are just a few steps from where we park, with easy walks of up to about half a mile.
About 60% of my workshop clients come back for another one, which tells you a lot about the experience. As one past fall Grand Teton client put it:
"I think the way you handled the workshop was as near perfect as any student could ask for."

Make it a fall color double
The following week, Jim and I head to Colorado for San Juan Gold in Ouray (September 30–October 4, 2027), so you can photograph peak fall color in two iconic locations back to back. If you're interested in that one, get in touch and I'll add you to the list. You can see all of my upcoming trips on my photography workshops and tours page.
I hope you can join us in the Tetons next fall!
