Hi, I’m Matt Suess. I’ve been replacing skies since 1993, back in the chemical darkroom days, and I’ve done sky replacements for client and commercial work.


I’ve also spent years teaching photo enthusiasts how to replace skies so the result looks natural. One thing I’ve learned: the sky you start with makes all the difference.

What are the file specs?

High-resolution JPGs, almost all 8,200 pixels on the long edge (the equivalent of a 50MP camera). With a little cropping they work on any photo format.

Which software can I use?

Any program that opens JPGs can open them. For an easy sky replacement, use one with layers & masks or a sky replacement tool, such as Photoshop, Luminar or ON1 Photo RAW.

How do I add the skies to my software?

How do I get the files?

If I use your clouds/skies in my photo project, who then owns the rights to the final image? Can I sell prints of the final image, or sell it to clients, etc?

They’re single clouds on a black background. Use them when you like the blue sky you have and just want to add a cloud or two, without replacing the whole sky.
